Missing Latvian tourist Liga’s body found mutilated, without head.
Latvian tourist Liga Skromane who went missing from an Ayurveda resort in Kerala was found dead on the banks of Karamana river at Thiruvananthapuram today.
The 33-year-old women was undergoing ayurvedic treatment and vanished from the resort in Pothencode on March 14.
A body has been found in the search for Liga Skromane who has been missing in India for one month. Liga, who is originally from Latvia but has been living in Dublin for the past five years, was last seen on March 14.
According to local media reports, a fisherman discovered the body of a woman by the riverside in an isolated area near Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala.
According to P Praksh, Thiruvananthapuram city police commissioner, the beheaded and mutilated body of a foreigner woman was found on the riverbanks and police were yet to identify it. Reported on India Today.
"We were alerted by local youth who had gone to the remote place for fishing. They inform us about the body lying in the bushes close to the river bank.
We found her head some distance away from the body in another place. A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been dead for almost a month as it is in a decomposed state. Based on a DNA test, the identity of the person will be ascertained," another senior official told India Today.
According to police records, the Latvian tourist Liga Skromane was 170 cms tall with brown hair and blue eyes.
Her husband, Andrew Jordan, from Swords, Dublin, travelled to India after the Liga's missing in Kerala.
The body identified by Liga's sister Ilze and a friend are on the search with police. A detailed forensic examination will be carried out to confirm the identity.
"She was very depressed and wasn't sleeping so we came over to Kerala to take part in a six-week holistic Ayurvedic treatment. She had been responding well to the holistic treatments and was really engaging with the services. Added her sister Ilze.
Liga and her sister had been holidaying in Kerala since last February. After visiting Kochi, Alappuzha, Kollam and Varkala, Liga had undergone ayurvedic treatment for traumatic depression. She went missing from the resort and was last seen near Kovalam beach on March 14.
Liga’s sister Ilze made all efforts to trace her and sought support from her facebook page. Ilze and Liga's husband met the Chief Minister for a detailed investigation. The Navy and Airforce joined search operations in the sea. Kerala police constituted a special team to investigate Liga’s missing case.
The Southern Naval Command used Gemini inflatable boats, underwater sonar and 5 deep-sea divers for the underwater search operations. A special aircraft AN32 also participated in the search operations.
According to Ilze, Liga went missing with her sandals and in a hospital dress for inmates. She had left her bag and passport in the room and had Rs 2000 with her. The body was found with leggings and a jacket.
According to the complaint lodged by Ilze, she skipped morning yoga and left the resort at 8:30 am. Liga took an auto to Kovalam and was last seen around 11.30 am.
Liga's husband, 42-year-old Andrew Jordan, arrived in Thiruvananthapuram and joined the search operations.
